The gathering was small. The purpose, substantial.
Our first Śram Park for women came alive in the company of a small, insightful group, people who grasp what the future of Indian manufacturing will require.

Friends, family and well-wishers journeyed for four hours.
What that unlocked is a giant leap for womankind. They came to see the physical system that must exist before a woman can leave home, arrive near a factory and keep building a life after the first working day.
The manufacturing gap
Some factories will stand silent.
India’s factories are rising fast, with production lines humming into existence. Yet some will stand silent, not for lack of capital, machines or orders, but because we have not built a bridge of continuity for the migrant workers meant to bring them to life.
That failure is sharper for women.
What continuity requires
The job is only one part of the decision.
For a woman to leave home for work, she needs a safe place to live, dependable transport, food she can trust and a system that does not abandon her after she arrives.
Until industry provides that continuity, inclusion will remain a promise made in a boardroom and broken at the factory gate.

This is not only about being fair to women.
An IMF report estimated that closing India’s gender gap could raise GDP by 27%. It is also about being fair to the next generation, which needs India to do well.
What comes next
The future of manufacturing is also a question of whether a worker can stay.
The people in this room understood that factories, living, transport, food and trust cannot be solved as separate transactions. The bridge has to hold from home to work, and through every move that follows.
